Meeting The Health & Safety Regulations Using Safety Window Film

Ensuring your workplace complies with all the relevant regulations is not only important from a legal perspective, it is vital if you are to maintain the health and well being of all your employees and visitors. Those who choose to ignore the law leave themselves wide open for prosecution and potentially other repercussions in the event of an accident. It is therefore crucial that glass meets the appropriate safety standard as set out in 'The Workplace (Health Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 Regulation 14'.

Those responsible for ensuring this standard is met and maintained are required to perform a risk assessment in critical locations to identify any glass that does not meet the current safety standard. If any glass is found to be in contradiction of the law, it must be replaced or upgraded to meet the requirements. The regulation states:

"Every window or other transparent or translucent surface in a wall or partition and every transparent or translucent surface in a door or gate shall, where necessary for reasons of health and safety:
be of safety material or be protected against breakage of the transparent or translucent material and.
be appropriately marked or incorporate features so as, in either case to make it apparent."

The recommendations for 'Critical Locations' are recognised (from BS6206 Part 4) as;

Upgrading Glass.

The inconvenience and cost of installing safety glass has resulted in many organisations flouting the law - either intentionally or due to simple ignorance. There is, however, a more practical solution. Safety Film, which is tested to the same level and in the same way as Safety Glass, can be applied to strengthen and upgrade the window. Safety Window Film will strengthen vulnerable areas of glazing to ensure that the glass is contained in the event of an accident. The Safety Films are clear when installed professionally and do not restrict vision through the glass.

Safety/Solar Window Film.

Our Safety Films are also available in a 'solar control' version. This type of film not only gives the safety performance required but will also dramatically reduce solar heat gain and glare. A combination Window Film such as this is ideal for workplaces with computer users who experience glare, or for buildings with large glass facades.
