Window film is a self-adhesive and versatile material that is designed to be applied to a glass surface. It has a variety of purposes such as decorative, privacy, safety or heat control.
Window Film is usually applied using a water and soap solution and a squeegee. Each piece can be applied in a letter of minutes. Lustalux at Home provide detailed instructions with every order, we recommend reading it carefully before attempting to install your first piece. Lustalux at Home also have a series of video tutorials to guide you through the process.
You will need a basic kit of glass scraper to clean the glass, spray bottle to apply water and soap solution, squeegee to remove water from film and a sharp craft knife to trim any excess. Lustalux at Home have a small installation kit available.
Window Film should only be applied to smooth, non-textured glass. Certain kinds of our Heat Control and Anti-Glare films can only be applied to glass that meets certain specifications. We strongly recommend you read our comprehensive list of glass types and whether your film is suitable.
If cared for properly, Window Film is very durable. Many of our internal films come with a 10 year warranty and can be expected to last longer in the right conditions.
Yes you can. All kinds of Window Film can be removed. How long the film has been on the glass and the type of film will determine how easy it is to remove. We have a video showing the technique to use.
We recommend using a soft cloth or window squeegee. You should avoid using anything abrasive or any solvents and powerful detergents.
All films available at Lustalux at Home are completely safe for use in a bathroom. Condensation will not effect the film and it will not peel off the glass. The only precaution we would suggest is if applying to a shower screen, apply it to bathroom side, not the shower side. This is to prevent a buildup of limescale and cleaning products.
The soapy water application method we recommend is the industry standard and is proven to work. It gives you plenty of opportunity to make sure you are happy with your install before it fully dries. Should you notice a bubble in the middle of your film, more often than not it is trapped water that will cure out over time. If you see a bubble coming from the side of the film, we recommend wrapping a credit card with kitchen roll and carefully pushing the bubble back to the side of the film and drying any excess water.
This is one of the most popular questions we get asked. There is no definitive film that is One Way Vision. Commonly it is a silver reflective film, but crucially to work as required it needs certain light conditions. It will work during day time hours when there is more natural light. At night, the effect will completely reverse and people will be able to see in clearly while you will not be able to see out. It does not matter which side of the glass you apply the film.
The only way to provide privacy at night is with use of our Frosted and Opaque films. Alternatively, one of our patterned window films can provide a degree or privacy while offering something of a view. One-Way Window Film only provides privacy during the day time and with the correct lighting conditions.

Depending on what film you order, your film will either have paper backing or a clear liner. They are both removed using the same method. Usually our opaque and frosted films which includes our patterned films have a paper backing. Our range of solar control and safety films will usually have a very thin, clear backing liner that is slightly more difficult to remove if you dont have long fingernails. We have a video tutorial demonstrating techniques for both.
