project details

Kirkwall on The Orkney islands is approximately 500 miles from our Preston head office. When we were approached to print and install wall graphics at the brand new hospital in the town, we didn't offer to walk "five hundred miles" as the song goes but we were delighted to accept the challenge of getting there.

After one missed flight, a puncture and a choppy ferry crossing the project was completed early this month and is something we are justifiably very proud of. Given the logistics, many companies would have baulked at the challenge but in true Lustalux style, it was mission accomplished with stunning results.

The thirty-metre long mural is an ocean scene entitled "Flow" created by renowned Orkney based artist Samantha Clark who worked closely with our team to ensure that we did her creation justice. For continuity, where windows interrupt the wall design, we printed onto clear window film and applied it to the glass with stunning effect.

"The team at Lustalux were great to work with. They didn’t bat an eyelid when I presented them with a set of hugely detailed design drawings that were a challenge to match up seamlessly across 30 metres of wall and glazing, and were happy to travel all the way to Orkney to ensure the final prints were installed to a high standard. Everyone at the new Balfour Hospital is delighted with the final results. I’d happily work with them again."
