As well as being passionate about the industry and growing Lustalux over the last 30 years’, Richard has collected other significant achievements over the years, including running in the 1988 Olympic Marathon trial after achieving an impressive qualifying time of 2 hours and 36 minutes.
Richard claims the race sounds much grander than it was and he ran much slower than he would have needed to qualify for the Seoul Olympics in the same year. Although still very impressive.
How did you get involved in the industry?
It all started when I answered a newspaper advert for a window film franchise back in 1989. One thing led to another, and I ended up creating Lustalux with my colleague Jeff Simnor in 1991. I’ve never looked back, and I still love the thrill of securing a new customer and the pride I feel when my company is praised for doing something well.
What does your role entail?
I generally oversee the business in terms of marketing, finance with some surveying, and quoting thrown in for good measure.
What do you enjoy about working at Lustalux?
Working with a team is really important to me. I have been self-employed all my working life, but since creating Lustalux, I have developed an exceptional team around myself. I enjoy the camaraderie of working with people whose company I enjoy and the security of not facing the world alone.
Is there a particular project or memorable experience you have that has been your favourite at Lustalux?
I am very proud of some of the window film projects we have completed over the years but to be honest window film though extremely functional and effective can be quite a mundane product. The most satisfying jobs are the ones where we create a ‘wow factor’. There have been many projects like this over the years, but one that comes to my mind immediately is the Mathematics themed project we completed for a London school.
