common questions
the quick version, straight from the install teams
How does one-way / two-way window film work?
One-way vision isn’t magic—it’s light levels. Reflective films work when the brighter side becomes the mirror. In daylight, the outside is brighter so you see out and outsiders see a mirror. At night, with interior lights on, the effect reverses.
Why doesn’t one-way film work at night?
With lights on inside and darker conditions outside, the brightness flips. The interior becomes visible. For night privacy, combine film with blinds, curtains, or lighting control.
Will window film make my glass break?
No. Film doesn’t break glass, but it can raise glass temperature slightly. We check glass type, edge condition, shading, and size to specify film that stays within safe stress limits.
How long will my window film last?
We use premium films with typical warranties of 7–10 years and real-world lifespans often beyond 15 years. External films are edge-sealed for weather protection.
What causes toughened glass to shatter spontaneously?
Nickel sulphide inclusions from manufacturing can expand over time and fracture glass. We can add containment (safety) film to hold shards in place and reduce hazard.
Will window film remove too much natural light?
It depends on the problem we’re solving. For glare or solar gain, some visible light reduction is necessary—like sunglasses. We balance performance with daylight so spaces stay usable and comfortable.
What are the rules for glass manifestation?
To meet DDA/Building Regs, two rows of contrasting markings are typically required on full-height glazing—around 850mm and 1500mm from finished floor level. We can design compliant, brand-fit manifestation.
What are acceptable workplace temperatures?
Thermal comfort generally sits ~13°C–30°C depending on activity. HSE guidance notes using solar-control measures on sun-facing glazing; we specify films that cut heat and glare while keeping light usable.
