project details
Preston Bus Station is a truly iconic building falling into the “marmite category” of being loved and hated in equal measures. It was constructed between 1968 and 1969 in the Brutalist style and is instantly recognised worldwide by anyone interested in this style of architecture. Once having the boast of being Europe’s biggest bus station it also doubles as a multi storey car park.
The structure has survived several attempts to have it condemned to make way for ambitious redevelopment but has now survived to the point of being granted Grade II listed building status by English Heritage.
In 2016 renovation work began by major Preston Construction Company, Conlon. Lustalux were chosen to provide a range of services as part of the work. These included safety window film to bring some of the 1960’s glazing up to current regulations, manifestation for health and safety regulations and various types of window film, graphics and signage.
Work is still ongoing but is expected to be completed later in 2018 to include a “Youth Zone” for young people
Finally the last of our Preston trio is another City landmark, the covered market. Completed in 1875 at a cost of £9126 the grade two listed structure has stood proudly in the city centre providing shelter for generations of market traders and millions of customers. The roof structure which has a 90 foot span is supported by cast iron pillars none of which are internal thus providing an unobstructed interior.
Work began in 2017 to construct an internal screen under the existing roof structure thereby creating an enclosed space with brand new market stalls and traders facilities. Work was completed this month and the grand opening took place on February 12th.
Lustalux provided manifestation incorporating the city lamb crest, etched window graphics and signage. Simple but effective finishing touches to another high profile project in our home city.
For window films, graphics and signage anywhere in the UK and not just Preston, Lustalux is proud to offer an extensive range of architectural products to grace any building.
