Toilet-block cubicles at ACC Liverpool resurfaced with architectural film

Project

ACC Liverpool — Internal Refurbishment

Architectural-film refurbishment of ten existing facility areas at ACC Liverpool, programmed around the venue's events calendar.

project details

Location
Liverpool
Sector
Events & hospitality
Timeline
4 weeks, with individual areas completed in 1–2 days

the challenge

ACC Liverpool needed ten existing toilet blocks refreshed without the programme and disruption associated with removing structurally sound cubicle systems. Work had to be completed around a busy events calendar.

our solution

Lustalux retained the existing cubicle structures and resurfaced them with architectural film in phases. Approximately 1,500 metres of LG architectural film (now LX Hausys) was installed over a four-week programme, with individual areas completed in approximately 1–2 days.

key outcomes

  • Ten existing toilet blocks refreshed by resurfacing the cubicle structures rather than replacing them.
  • Approximately 1,500 metres of architectural film installed over a four-week programme.
  • Each area completed in approximately 1–2 days so that other facilities could remain available.
  • Installation planned around the venue's events calendar, with the Lustalux team operating as a self-contained package.

project details

ACC Liverpool needed ten existing toilet blocks refreshed without removing cubicle systems that were still structurally sound. After comparing a full refit with resurfacing, the venue specified interior architectural film.

Lustalux was on site for four weeks installing approximately 1,500 metres of LG architectural film (now LX Hausys) to the dated cubicles. Rather than a full strip-out, the existing panels were prepared and wrapped in a modern finish, with each area completed in approximately 1–2 days around the convention centre's events calendar.

“We’ve been open since 2008 and the toilets were starting to look quite dated. Initially, we had the idea of renovating the whole toilet, which includes ripping everything out to fit brand new toilet cubicles and panels. After a bit of investigation, we discovered that was going to be quite costly, and with the panels being in pretty good condition, we approached Lustalux for a more cost-effective option.” — Zak Khachik, Head of Operations, ACC Liverpool

To install the film, the team sanded and cleaned the panels, then applied the film directly to the retained substrate.

“Lustalux has been really good from quotation right through to project management. We are a busy convention centre, and it was great that Lustalux could work around us, whilst being self-contained and keeping noise to a minimum.” — Zak Khachik, Head of Operations, ACC Liverpool

The recorded 75% saving compared with cubicle replacement belongs to this ACC Liverpool specification. It is not a universal architectural-film cost, waste or downtime claim. our approach

1

Preparation

Existing panels were sanded and cleaned so the film could be applied to the retained cubicle structures.

2

Phased install

Each bathroom block was completed in approximately 1–2 days to keep facility availability during the events programme.

3

Venue coordination

The install was programmed around ACC Liverpool's calendar, with the site team describing Lustalux as self-contained and needing little venue input.

project faqs

Q: Why use film instead of new cubicles?

At ACC Liverpool the existing panels were in serviceable condition, so resurfacing them avoided a full rip-out. That reduced programme length and waste compared with replacing the cubicles. Suitability still depends on the substrate on each project.

Q: How long did the installation take?

Each bathroom block was completed in approximately 1–2 days, and the ten-block programme ran over four weeks around the venue's events calendar.
