the challenge

Grade I and II listed landmark buildings in Preston needed specialist glazing, graphics and signage that would sit within wider conservation and construction programmes rather than reading as generic commercial overlays.

our solution

Lustalux contributed solar-control film at the Harris Museum, safety film, manifestation, graphics and signage at Preston Bus Station, and manifestation incorporating the city lamb crest plus etched graphics and signage at the Covered Market.

key outcomes

  • Preston Bus Station: safety film, manifestation, graphics and signage within the Conlon renovation programme.
  • Covered Market: manifestation incorporating the Preston city lamb crest, plus etched graphics and signage.

project details

Lustalux is headquartered in Preston. These three city landmarks show window film, manifestation, graphics and signage delivered on our own doorstep, each specified within a wider construction or conservation project.

Harris Museum

Opened in 1893, the Harris is a Grade I listed building in Preston city centre. In 2015 the museum asked Lustalux to address UV and solar exposure through glazed roof atria above sensitive collections. External Sentinel Stainless Steel 15 OSW solar-control film was specified around the measured light levels. See the dedicated Harris Museum project.

Preston Bus Station

The Brutalist bus station, constructed in 1968–69 and later listed Grade II, underwent renovation from 2016 with Conlon Construction as main contractor. Lustalux contributed safety film to existing 1960s glazing, manifestation designed around applicable glazing-visibility requirements, and graphics and signage within that contractor package. This is not a claim that every pane was brought up to every current regulation, or that manifestation is automatically Building Regulations compliant.

Preston Covered Market

The Grade II listed covered market (completed 1875) was enclosed with an internal screen and new stalls. Lustalux provided manifestation incorporating the Preston city lamb crest, etched window graphics and signage.

our approach

1

Heritage-sensitive specification

Each intervention was specified within the wider conservation or construction brief. Lustalux does not grant listed-building consent.

2

Multi-service delivery

Solar-control film, safety film, manifestation, graphics and signage coordinated across three city-centre landmarks.

3

Contractor environment

Bus Station work sat inside a major renovation led by Conlon Construction, with Lustalux contributing specialist glazing and graphics packages.

project faqs

Q: Do you work on listed buildings?

Yes. Lustalux has contributed specialist film, graphics and signage to listed-building projects in Preston. The proposed intervention still has to fit the wider conservation brief and any approvals held by the project team.

Q: Can window film be used for UV protection?

Suitable solar-control films can reduce UV and solar energy through glazing. At the Harris Museum, Sentinel Stainless Steel 15 OSW was specified around measured light levels. Those product figures are not universal to every film.
